Orihuela - Cultural Capital of the Costa Blanca.
The Alicante Tourist Board has awarded Orihuela the title Costa Blanca Capital of Culture. The award has been given in recognition of the city's rich cultural and artistic heritage and its numerous impressive historic buildings including Baroque Church and the City's cathedral. The city can also boast to be birthplace of one of Spain's finest poets Miguel Hernandez, and that is famous for its local Fiestas and Fairs. The Mayor hopes that the award will bring much needed funding and investment to the city with which he hopes to improve transport links with the coast and across the Vega Baja. He also hopes to use the city's new status to promote Orihuela and Orihuela Costa at tourism fairs and exhibitions as a key sports destination to help attract new business investment.
