A MONTH OF FIESTAS IN ROJALES

The countdown is on to the official start of Rojales' fiestas in honour of its patron saint, San Pedro and the Moors and Christians. The traditional way to kick off the celebrations is by setting off a rocket known as the Chupinazo, which will happen in the Plaza de España on Sunday June 17th. The parades start at 12:15pm and the party starts at 12:30. Expect lots of fun but also expect to get wet!

The Town Hall has supplied the following programme for the fiestas, with activities right up to July the 14th:

THURSDAY 14th JUNE

12 noon – Onda Cero Radio Station broadcasting live from the Indoor Market of Rojales.

8pm – In the Municipal Sports Hall: End of the Year Festival of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Municipal School of Rojales.

9pm – In the “Malecón del Soto" promenade: audition of the Music Band “Santa Cecilia" of Rojales.

FRIDAY 15th JUNE

6pm – Erection of the Hoguera 2018 “THE 21st CENTURY GOES OLD" next to Mercadona Supermarket.

7:30pm – In the Capitol Theatre: Graduation Ceremony of the Year 2017/2018 of the pupils of 6th grade Primary to Secondary.

SATURDAY 16th JUNE

3:30pm – In the firing range of Rojales: GUN SHOOTING “SAN PEDRO" COMPETITION. Organised by the Olympic Shooting Club of Rojales in collaboration with Rojales Town Hall.

7pm – In the sports facilities of the Petanque Club of Rojales: the COMPETITION “12 HOURS OF PETANQUE". Organised by the Petanque Club of Rojales in collaboration with Rojales Town Hall.

9pm – In the Capitol Theatre: Presentation of Captains and Flag Bearers 2018, organised by the Central Committee of Moors and Christians in collaboration with Rojales Town Council.

Following the presentation, supper and dancing at the Contrabandistas Kábila.

SUNDAY 17th JUNE

9am – In the firing range of Rojales: GUN SHOOTING “SAN PEDRO" COMPETITION. Organised by the Olympic Shooting Club of Rojales in collaboration with Rojales Town Hall.

12.15pm – Chupinazo parade from the Chemist's La Pasarela to Plaza de España.

12.30pm – In the Plaza de España: the Fiestas start with “El Chupinazo". A rocket will be launched and will herald the beginning of our festivities 2017. Do not forget to bring your swimsuit!

2pm – Grand “Mascletá" (noisy fireworks) in the “Malecón del Soto" promenade by Pirotecnia Ferrández from Redován.

8pm – In the Capitol Theatre: End of the Year 2017/2018 Festival of the Municipal School of Dancing directed by Isabel Avellaneda and Begoña López.

MONDAY 18th JUNE

8:30pm – In the Capitol Theatre, End of the Year Festival of the Sofía Sánchez School of Dancing.

TUESDAY 19th JUNE

8:30pm – In the Capitol Theatre, End of the Year Festival of the Sofía Sánchez School of Dancing. Second performance.

WEDNESDAY 20th JUNE

8pm – In the Capitol Theatre, Graduation Ceremony of the Year 2017/2018 of “La Encantá" High School of Rojales.

THURSDAY 21st JUNE

10pm – Correfoc (Fire-Run) that will start at Plaza de España and will end by the Hoguera 2018.

11pm – Preliminary ceremony before the burning of the Hoguera 2018 “THE 21st CENTURY GOES OLD".

FRIDAY 22nd JUNE

8pm – In the Capitol Theatre, Graduation Ceremony of the Year 2017/2018 of “La Encantá" High School of Rojales. Second round.

10pm – In the “Malecón del Soto" promenade, event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Moors and Christians of Rojales. Following this event, let's dance with the Band “Orquesta Freedom".

SATURDAY 23rd JUNE

11am – In the Capitol Theatre, End of the Year's 2017/2018 Festival of the Municipal Nursery School “Los Pasos".

8pm – Flower offerings in honour of San Pedro. Departure from Rojales Health Centre. In the following order: Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg, Guerreros del Cid, Piratas, Benakíes, Contrabandistas, Captains and Flag Bearers. Attendance by the authorities and Queens of Fiestas.

10pm – Ascent of the "Cabezo Soler" Hill. “La Encantá" Magical Night. Organised by the Department for Youth of Rojales Town Hall. Starting point: Opposite Mercadona Rojales (Torch recommended).

11pm – In the “Malecón del Soto" promenade, popular open-air dance by the Band “Orquesta Buda".

WEDNESDAY 27th JUNE

8pm – Marksmen from the different Moors and Christians Associations will begin shooting (from the Town Hall).

9pm – Gunpowder Battle, speeches and the taking of the castle on the Malecón del Soto promenade.

Once the event is over, dancing in the various Kábilas.

THURSDAY 28th JUNE

10:30pm – CHARANGA (Summer Carnival Parade) with the participation of all the Moors and Christians Associations. They will parade in the following order: Guerreros del Cid, Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg, Piratas, Benakíes and Contrabandistas.

Once the parade is over, dancing in the various Kábilas.

FRIDAY 29th JUNE

FESTIVITY OF “SAN PEDRO APOSTOL", PATRON SAINT OF ROJALES

Giants and large heads parading round the streets all day, accompanied by the dulzaina (little clarinet) and drum.

9am – The Band of “La Lira" parading round the streets. On its route, tribute to senior citizens organised by the Moors association “Almohades". All the Moors and Christians Associations and individuals are invited to take part.

11am – On the “Malecón del Soto" promenade, Water Gymkhana and Bouncy Castles. Bring your swimwear.

8pm – Holy Mass in honour of our Patron Saint San Pedro, attended by the Authorities, Queens of Fiestas, Captains and Flag Bearers.

9pm – Solemn procession in honour of our Patron Saint San Pedro. At the end of the procession, a magnificent firework display will be given by Pirotecnia Ferrández from Redován.

Once the event is over, dancing in the various Kábilas.

SATURDAY 30th JUNE

8pm – PARADE OF THE BANDS.

9pm – GRAND PARADE OF MOORS AND CHRISTIANS. They will parade in the following order: Moors: Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg & Benakíes. Christians: Guerreros del Cid, Piratas & Contrabandistas (Captains).

Once the parade is over, dancing in the various Kábilas.

SUNDAY 1st JULY

9pm – GRAND PARADE OF MOORS AND CHRISTIANS. They will parade in the following order: Christians: Contrabandistas (Captains), Guerreros del Cid and Piratas. Moors: Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg and Benakíes.

The floats of the Queens of Fiestas will close the parade.

Following this, dancing in the various Kábilas.

MONDAY 2nd JULY

9pm – In the Municipal Sports Centre: beginning of the 34th Five-a-side football Championship “Villa de Rojales", organised by the Department for Sports of Rojales Town Hall.

FRIDAY 6th, SATURDAY 7th JULY

10pm – In the Rodeo Caves, Short Movie Film Festival “THE RODEO FILM FEST".

SATURDAY 7th JULY

8pm – In the Rodeo Caves, Arts and Crafts Meeting with the opening of an exhibition in the Mengolero Exhibition Cave.

SATURDAY 14th JULY

10pm – In the Rodeo Caves, closing and prize giving ceremony of the Short Movie Film Festival “THE RODEO FILM FEST".
