27 blue flags on the beaches of the Vega Baja for the Summer of 2023
The Vega Baja is shining blue. Thus, the eleven beaches of Orihuela have revalidated their blue flags this Thursday for the sixth consecutive year and the capital of the Vega Baja becomes the town with the most blue flags in the entire Valencian Community. The beaches of Punta Prima, La Zenia-Cala Bosque, Cabo Roig-La Caleta, Cala Capitán, Aguamarina, Campoamor-La Glea, Barranco Rubio, Cala Estaca, Cala Mosca, Cala Cerrada and Mil Palmeras have all been awarded blue flags. These blue flags, it should be remembered, are awarded at national level by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education.
Likewise, the jury also recognised the municipality of Orihuela in the "Special Mention for Lifeguard Services" section.
Torrevieja received six blue flags, with the beaches of Cabo Cervera, Cala de las Piteras, El Cura, Los Locos, Los Náufragos and Torrelamata-Sur. In the case of the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada, another six blue flags have been awarded to the beaches of Conde, Higuericas, Jesuitas, Mil Palmeras, Puerto and Rocamar. Finally, Guardamar del Segura has been awarded four blue flags for its beaches Centre, El Moncaio, La Roqueta and Dels Vivers.
The Blue Flag is a distinction awarded annually at international level by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to those beaches and marinas that meet a series of requirements that guarantee their quality in relation to the environment and sustainable development of tourism.
The physical form of the Blue Flag is a flag with a blue background and a white logo, which is flown at the beaches and marinas that have been awarded the Blue Flag. It is the way of informing the user that a beach has passed the demanding criteria for achieving it.
