The National Opera of Bucharest1(Romanian: Opera Naţională București) is the name given to one of the national opera and ballet companies of Romania, at the same time it is the name of the historic building in Bucharest that houses it, and which was erected in 1953 near the neighborhood of Cotroceni, the work of Octav Doicescu. The first opera performed there was Tchaikovsky's "Queen of Spades" on January 9, 1954; the first ballet was Coppélia, the following night. Its auditorium has 952 seats, but occasionally concerts are held in the yellow Foyer with a maximum of 200.
