Getting your Empadronamiento...
What is the empadronamiento?
Once you have bought or are renting a property in Spain, and are living here for more than 6 months´ of the year, you should register yourself on the empadronamiento, also known as ´Padrón´. The Padrón is a certificate given to justify that you live in Spain.
It allows the local government to calculate how many people are living in an area and helps them to petition for grants to improve local facilities. You will also require a Padrón if you wish to register at a health centre, set up with social security, register your child at a school and to have a car registered.
How do I get this?
To get this, you need to go to your local Town Hall with a copy of your deeds or rental contract, your original NIE, passport, residence certificate (if you have one) and a recent utility bill. If you have children, you should take their birth certificates too.
It is a really simple process to do by yourself and most town halls do not require you to make an appointment in advance.
